A Notice of Intended Marriage may be signed with the celebrant
up to eighteen months before the date of your intended marriage,
but no less than one month and one day before the intended date
of the wedding.
The celebrant will have the Form but it may be
obtained from www.ag.gov.au or from overseas it can be obtained
from www.dfat.gov.au - if overseas the form will need to be witnessed
by a qualified person – a consular official at an Australian
Embassy or Consulate or a Notary Public of that country, before
posting – to be received by me at least one day and one
month before the date of your intended wedding. (This form may
be faxed but the original must be presented to the celebrant before
the wedding).
The celebrant must sight original copies of Birth Certificates.
If you have been previously married – the celebrant will
need to sight original copies of the Decree Absolute/Death Certificate
~ whichever document is relevant.
Both parties need to be over eighteen (otherwise a magistrate’s
permission must be obtained).
There must be two adult witnesses to the marriage.
Statutory Declarations must be completed at a pre-wedding meeting,
in the week prior to the wedding.
